This Tuesday, 8 September at 10.30 am, the book ‘Territories and landscapes of Mediterranean Olive Groves in the framework of the Soil O-live project’ will be presented in the ‘Salón de Grados Verde (C1)’ on the Las Lagunillas Campus of the University of Jaén.
This work has been published by UJA Editorial and compiled by researchers from the University Institute of Research on Olive Groves and Olive Oils (INUO) at the University of Jaén – Antonio Garrido Almonacid, José Domingo Sánchez Martínez and Antonio José Manzaneda Ávila – with contributions from various authors (AA.VV.).
Summary of the contents
The book analyses the situation of the Mediterranean olive grove as a landscape shaped by human activity that faces various environmental and social challenges. Indeed, it has been developed as part of the European research project ‘Soil O-live’, examining case studies from olive-growing regions in Spain (Andalusia), Portugal, Greece, Italy and Morocco.
Throughout the chapters, the book examines the impact of climate change, public policies, market pressures and agricultural practices on soil health, biodiversity and the viability of olive cultivation. Furthermore, the book proposes ways to move towards sustainable farming systems that contribute to the protection of the environment and the rural landscape.
