On June 11 and 12, Jaén—recognized as the world capital of olive oils—also became the international hub for cutting-edge research in omics sciences, preventive medicine, and the link between lifestyle habits and health.
With speakers from some of the world’s leading universities and an audience eager to explore the latest discoveries on how lifestyle choices influence the development of chronic diseases such as diabetes, cancer, and dementia, this event—transformed into a true experience—left us with moments like these (photo gallery).
For this reason, whether you joined us or have already decided not to miss the next edition, we invite you to watch this short highlight video featuring the best moments of a Congress that has led to conclusions representing a true revolution.
In the words of the Congress co-chair, Professor Martínez-González, the innovative research lines presented are set to “add more years to life, and more life to years” And for good reason—some of the conclusions presented include:
- Following a Mediterranean diet can reduce the risk of stroke and heart attack by up to 30%.
- The Mediterranean diet helps maintain a younger functional brain age (and reduces the genetic risk of developing Alzheimer’s disease).
- The consumption of Extra Virgin Olive Oil improves brain connectivity.
- Eating nuts reduces the risk of diabetes.
- Consuming fruits and vegetables (especially those rich in carotenoids) lowers the risk of developing several types of cancer.
However, the Scientific Committee has drawn up a detailed document setting out the conclusions of this conference.
The INUO of the University of Jaén, together with Harvard University and the University of Navarra as the event’s organizing team, and the Provincial Council of Jaén as its funding body, sincerely thank you for your engagement with the event and are already counting the days until welcoming you again at the next edition.
