On Monday, March 16, 2026, an internal call for research project grants «INUO SCIENTIFIC PROGRAMS» was published, aimed at encouraging INUO researchers to submit proposals for cutting-edge projects with novel and innovative approaches that will enable them to collaboratively address ambitious, concrete scientific challenges and programs with a high degree of innovation. This call supports various scientific programs and initiatives that aim to contribute to the achievement of the objectives and milestones of its 2024–2027 Strategic Research Plan.
The main features of the call for applications are as follows:
1) Proposals must feature a novel and innovative approach at the forefront of knowledge, the successful implementation of which will enable the development of a subsequent, more advanced phase (Type A projects). Additionally, the call for proposals to fund innovation projects promoted by the Joint Innovation Units (Type B projects) is hereby approved.
2) Collaborative projects must align with the INUO Strategic Plan and fall within the following areas:
a) “Sustainability of olive groves and olive oil” and “Resilience and adaptation to climate change.”
b) “Digitalization and technological development of new sustainable products and processes in the olive sector.”
c) “Enhancing the value and competitiveness of the olive and sustainable olive oil sector in terms of health, consumption, and society.”- The principal investigator (PI) of the visiting research Group.
3) There are two types of projects:
a) Type A projects: ambitious research projects within the framework of the three scientific programs and focused on priority research areas 1–4, which aim to advance the frontiers of knowledge in each of these areas, either because they employ unconventional methodologies or due to their high degree of uncertainty and risk.
b) Type B Projects: technological innovation projects focused on priority research areas 1–4 and promoted by the Joint Innovation Units.
4) The duration of Type A projects will be 18 months; for Type B projects, the duration will vary and must be specified in the project proposal.
5) The maximum amount available for the 2026 grant call is as follows:
- Type A projects: 30,000 euros.
- Type B projects: 10,000 euros.

Type A Project Applications
There will be a single application period for projects, which will run from March 15 to April 15, 2026.
Application for Type B Projects
The call for applications for Type B projects will be open from March 15, 2026, throughout the entire year of 2026.
