The seminar “The Impact of Olive Tree Pests and Diseases on Olive Oil Quality and Production,” presented on February 13 by Ramón González Ruiz, a professor at the University of Jaén and researcher at INUO, as part of the “OliveOilMedNet” project.
On February 13, the University Institute of Research on Olive Grove and Olive Oils (INUO) at the University of Jaén held a seminar titled “Olive Tree Pests and Diseases. Impact on Olive Oil Quality and Production,” focused on one of the main factors that can affect olive grove yield and the characteristics of the resulting olive oils.
The seminar was led by Ramón González Ruiz, who analyzed the consequences that the presence of various phytopathogens and pests can have on the crop, highlighting the importance of proper identification, prevention, and management of these issues to promote the healthy development of the olive grove and preserve the quality of the final product.
The event provided the sector with scientific and technical knowledge related to olive grove health, highlighting the importance of research and knowledge transfer in addressing the challenges posed by olive cultivation and contributing to high-quality olive oil production.
This activity is part of the project “Mediterranean Network for the Promotion of Sustainability & Authenticity in the Olive Oil Sector – OliveOilMedNet,” co-financed by the European Union’s Interreg Euro-MED program under grant agreement No. EU-MED0200570.
