
The board of Rural Studies Foundation has awarded “2023 Prize of Politics, Economics and Social Sciences” to three academics of recognized prestige in different areas of knowledge, characterized by their contribution to research excellence in topics related to agricultural activity and the rural world. The winners have been: José Emilio Guerrero, PhD in Agricultural Engineering from University of Cordoba; José María García Álvarez-Coque, Professor of Applied Economics at Polytechnic University of Valencia; and Manuel Parras Rosa, Professor of Marketing and Market Research and member at Marketing and Economics Unit of the University Institute of Research on Olive and Olive Oils (INUO) from University of Jaén.
Rural Studies Foundation was created in 1997 within ‘Unión de Pequeños Agricultores y Ganaderos (UPA)’, in order to promote the study and debate of cultural, economic, social and political aspects that affect the development of rural areas, especially those related to agricultural activity. Since 2000, Rural Studies Foundation has been awarding its homonymous prizes, including Prize of Politics, Economics and Social Sciences, to those people and institutions that represent the best work of recognizing the rural world in all its aspects.
On this occasion, this award coincides with 30th Anniversary of Yearbook of Agriculture and Family Farming, where the extraordinary contribution of countless researchers is valued in each edition of the yearbook, providing scientific articles, analysis and high-level reflections that provide knowledge and transfer to the agricultural and rural reality in Spain, European Union and the rest of the world. The Board emphasizes that “this three award winners are clearly a reference in their respective disciplines, with an extensive academic and research career that has allowed them to be part of the Yearbook of Rural Studies Foundation“.
Ultimately, from University Institute of Research on Olive and Olive Oils (INUO) from University of Jaén, we want to give our most sincere congratulations to Manuel Parras Rosa for his constant contribution to the improvement of agrarian system.
The awards ceremony will take place on July 12 at the presentation of the Yearbook of Agriculture and Family Farming at Ateneo in Madrid.
