The 13th edition of the International Conference ‘Oddpols: International Conference on Transcription Mechanism and Regulation’ (Oddpols 2023) will be held at the University of Jaén from 30 May to 2 June. The objective of the programme is to disseminate the results obtained in recent scientific research on the role of plants in the synthesis of RNA molecules, in addition to the in-depth study of the cellular mechanisms involved in the regulation of this production and its physiological implications. In this sense, the aim is to cover everything from the stress that this synthesis can cause in plants to its involvement in human diseases and in the development of their therapeutic treatments. In fact, new knowledge on RNA is currently of interest because of its impact on the development of vaccines against Covid-19.
The organising committee is composed, on behalf of the UJA, by PhD. Francisco Navarro, member of the INUO, and PhD. Jorge Pérez Fernández, as well as PhD. Olga Calvo (Senior Scientist and Director of the Institute of Functional Biology and Genomics of Salamanca (CSIC-USAL)), PhD. Carlos Fernández Tornero (Senior Scientist of the CSIC) and PhD. David Schneider from the University of Alabama at Birmingham (USA). On the other hand, the Scientific Committee is made up of Nazif Alic (Institute of Healthy Ageing (University College London, UK), Susan Baserga (Yale University, USA), Magdalena Boguta (Polish Academy of Sciences, Poland), Olga Calvo (Institute of Functional Biology and Genomics of Salamanca (CSIC-USAL), Spain), Astrid Engel (Tulane Universtiy, USA), Carlos Fernández Tornero (Biological Research Center (CSIC), Spain), Olivier Gadal (Center for Integrative Biology (CNRS), France), Dina Grohmann (Universität Regensburg, Germany), Ross Hannan (John Curtin School of Medical Research, (ANU), Australia), Richard Maraia (National Institutes of Health (NIH), USA), Francisco Navarro (University of Jaén, Spain), Jorge Pérez-Fernández (University of Jaén, Spain), Craig Pikaard (Howard Hughes Medical Institute/ Indiana University), Tom Santangelo (Colorado State University, USA) and Alessandro Vannini (Human Technopole Foundation, Italy).
Oddpols 2023 Congress will be held in hybrid format, bringing together in Jaén more than 130 foreign researchers from Europe, America, Asia and Oceania. The opening ceremony will take place on Tuesday, May 30, at the old San Juan de Dios hospital in Jaén. Following the program, on May 31 and June 1, morning and afternoon sessions on the wide range of RNA synthesis machinery and its regulatory mechanisms will be held in the C1 building of ‘Las Lagunillas’ Campus of the University of Jaén. Finally, during the morning of June 2, the last two sessions will be held in the C1 building, about the impact of the RNA production machinery in the appearance of human diseases and the different therapeutic strategies.
Finally, the closing of the congress will take place with the awarding of the prizes for the best lectures, sponsored by the RNA Society, and for the best posters, sponsored by the journal Non-coding RNA of the MDPI group.
