UniRadio SPECIAL PROGRAMME AT EXPOLIVA FOCUSES ON UJA AND INUO ACTIVITIES RELATED TO THE OIL SECTOR

UniRadio Jaén broadcast a special programme directed by Julio Ángel Olivares, from the stand of the University of Jaén at EXPOLIVA, on the first day of this international meeting about olive grove and olive oil sector.

The first guest was Rector of the University of Jaén and member of the University Institute of Research into Olives and Olive Oils (INUO), Juan Gómez Ortega, who placed special emphasis on the commitment of the UJA to train future professionals in the olive sector, considered as “a strategic sector for our province and a key focus of attention for our institution, which aims to contribute to the economic and social development of this territory through the generation of knowledge“.

The second guest speaker was Adoración Mozas Moral, Coordinator of the University Master’s Degree in Olive and Olive Oil Production at the UJA and member of the University Institute of Research into Olives and Olive Oils (INUO). During her speech, she stressed that this Master’s degree provides in-depth knowledge of the functioning of the olive and olive oil sector with the aim of training professionals in the sector with decision-making skills that contribute to the development and modernisation of the sector. She also added that this Master’s degree is backed by the International Olive Council (IOC) and that it has trained more than 300 professionals since its origin. This programme provides information on the most recent research, innovative processes related to crops, olive oil production equipment and systems, actions developed for the use of olive by-products, the marketing of oils and the relationship between olive oil and health.

Finally, the third guest speaker was Professor Sebastián Sánchez Villasclaras, director of the Diploma of Expert in Virgin Olive Oil Tasting. This diploma also has the support of the International Olive Council (IOC) and it is taught by the University Institute of Research into Olives and Olive Oils, training more than 500 tasters from 64 countries, making it the most international training given at the University of Jaén.
