INAUGURATION OF THE XXI SCIENTIFIC-TECHNICAL SYMPOSIUM OF EXPOLIVA 2023

Rector of the University of Jaén, Juan Gómez Ortega, with the Regional Minister of Agriculture, Fisheries, Water and Rural Development of the Regional Government of Andalusia, Carmen Crespo, inaugurated XXI Scientific-Technical Symposium of EXPOLIVA 2023, which takes place from 10 to 12 May, in order to highlight the scientific advances related to the olive grove and olive oil sector.

As in previous editions, the Symposium is structured into five exhibition and discussions forums: Olive Industry, Technology and Quality Forum; Olive Grove and Environment Forum; Economic and Social Forum; Food, Health and Olive Oil Forum; and Olive Oil Tourism Forum. In addition, it should be noted that members and researchers from the University Institute of Research into Olives and Olive Oils (INUO) will take part in the development of various selected communications and discussions on current issues of concern to the olive sector, and will be able to contribute new approaches and applied technology in olive grove and olive oil technology.

According to the programme provided, Olive Grove and Environment Forum will deal with issues such as the evolution of olive plantations, value-added proposals for traditional olive groves and precision agriculture in olive grove development.

Likewise, Olive Industry, Technology and Quality Forum focuses on improving energy efficiency in the oil mill, the evolution of production processes with the aim of obtaining high quality olive oils and the revolution of Oil Mill 4.0. On the other hand, Economic and Social Forum will be based on the current situation of the olive oil market together with the presentation of the new cooperation models developed in the olive oil value chain.

Consequently, Food, Health and Olive Oil Forum will present research carried out by researchers from the University Institute of Research into Olives and Olive Oils of the University of Jaén on the beneficial effects of EVOO on health, as well as, those derived from the occasional consumption of olive pomace oil. Finally, the event will end with Olive Oil Tourism Forum, where the importance of bringing the olive oil culture to different parts of the world will be discussed.
