Last January, Andalusian Governing Council approved the 1st Andalusian Strategy for the Olive Sector 2023-2027, in order to support those producers with profitability problems in recent years. Regional Ministry of Agriculture, Fisheries, Water and Rural Development will be responsible for its design and, to this end, has requested the participation of technical teams from the University of Jaén (UJA) and the University of Cordoba (UCO) in its development and approach.
The technical team of the University of Jaén, led by the Professor of Marketing and Market Research, Manuel Parras Rosa, will be made up of researchers from the University Institute of Research into Olives and Olive Oils (INUO) of the UJA. On the other hand, the team from the University of Cordoba will be led by Rosa Gallardo, PhD in Agricultural Engineering and current director of the School of Agricultural Engineering and Forestry (ETSIAM) of the UCO.
More specifically, the mission of the teams requested by ‘Junta de Andalucía’ is based on the development of strategic lines, measures and actions in each of the themes addressed by the strategy, with the aim of helping producers in the olive sector to cope with production costs, the lack of generational replacement, modernisation, etc. In short, the aim will be to transform the sector in order to increase competitiveness and productivity among producers.
