The University Institute of Research on Olive Groves and Olive Oils (INUO) participated, through different presentations, in the International Conference on Sustainability, Quality and Health in the Olive Sector, organized by the International Olive Council (IOC) in Jaén, which this year has hosted the celebration of the 116th plenary session of this body, within the framework of the celebrations of World Olive Tree Day.
Specifically, Juan Bautista Barroso, director of INUO, presented the joint website developed by the UJA and the IOC dedicated to sustainability. For his part, Roberto García Ruiz, head of the INUO Ecology Unit, spoke about the sustainability of the Mediterranean olive grove and the project coordinated by SUSTAINOLIVE. In the last part of the day, dedicated to olive oil and health, José J. Gaforio, Head of the INUO Health Unit, spoke about the effects of extra virgin olive oil on metabolism and the immune system, as well as in the intestinal microbiota, in comparison with other edible oils.
