The PRIMA Foundation has selected the SUSTAINOLIVE project to participate in the United Nations Climate Change Conference (COP27). This international event will be held in the Mediterranean Pavilion (Blue Zone) from November 6th to 18th 2022, in Egypt.
The SUSTAINOLIVE project is coordinated by Roberto García Ruíz, a member of INUO. It involves producers, research centers and universities from Italy, Greece, Tunisia, Morocco, Portugal and Spain. This project aims to test technologically sustainable solutions in the management of Mediterranean olive groves, from the implementation of cover crops to the use of by-products from the olive industry.
After an in-depth analysis, the PRIMA Foundation has selected the SUSTAINOLIVE project to participate in the “Nature-based solutions for climate change mitigation” event, that will take place on November 14th. The first results of the project are very encouraging in terms of carbon dioxide sequestration when nature-based solutions are applied in olive cultivation, and there can be no better platform than COP 27 to showcase these results.
Among many other tasks, this project has already calculated the potential climate change mitigation of the olive cultivation under different combinations of management practices in olive groves of varied density.
